 Relaxing trip
My buddy and I were looking to relax on our vacation and we chose this resort on a whim. It turned out to be an excellent deal and a great place to stay. We got the room with the included breakfast buffet, and that turned out to be a wise choice. The food was very good and allowed us to stay on premise while we relaxed. It is a ten to fifteen minute bus ride away from Coco Bongo, so a little inconvenient if you are trying to party hard, but the resort is perfect if you are just looking to relax or for families. Would definitely stay here again.

 WONDERFUL RESORT
Great Place, feels like home every time. Staff and grounds perfect and clean. Location very close to everything . The beach is perfect at the report, cleaned and raked daily. Perfect place to watch the sunrise and relax all day.

Some things have changed and does not seem to be treated as special as previously. Restaurants off the properties still made us feel wanted and appreciated. Location is wonderful and beach is amazing. We did feel safe.More

 Fun family place and retirees
This was a pretty nice resort even though it's a little bit dated the rooms are very large and give ample space for everyone the beach views are great and access to both hotels next to other was really a nice touch

 The Royal Islander
My husband and I recently vacationed at the Royal Islander in Cancun, Mexico. The Resort was beautiful, restaurants were great, the hospitality was superb! We enjoyed every aspect of our vacation, but the icing on the cake was that our room was right on the beach! I recommend the Royal Resorts to anyone traveling to Cancun. You won't be disappointed!

 Islander is a must
This was the very best experience we have ever had. Would always recommend the Islander. The card system allowed for worry free pay as you go. When you needed to pay for anything, all you did was present your room key.More

Perfect for a relaxing week on the beach!
The unit was very clean and cleaned daily. We had excellent service but every call to the service desk was met by efforts to sell us a unit. Activities were minimal due to closure of the Royal Caribbean for maintenance during the week of our stay and they were not relocated to the Royal Islander nor were we told they were cancelled.

Updates to the hotel, a nice welcome home
Last year we got caught up in the "member's update" (not a good experience) so this year we decided to skip the update and spend our time in the resort just relaxing, essentially not doing a thing (although we did do a tour to Isla Contoy - different review). When we arrived we were pleasantly surprised and the update to the furniture in the villa and to the veranda furniture. The villa furniture has bright colors and is actually quite comfortable. The veranda furniture is good quality furniture and a welcome relief to the old furniture which was cloth covered and subject to the weather (hot, humid, and wet for much of the year). The new veranda furniture will surely out last the old furniture. The people who form the face of Royal Resorts are the best part of our stay. They go out of their way to assure that our stay is a good one. Many of the wait staff remembered us from last year and the cleaning staff is by far the best. All in all a really nice stay.

Quiet, relaxing, and a great value!
My wife and I traveled to The Royal Islander and as we drive in we were a little skeptical since the driveway was hidden, but once we arrived, we were pleased. It was relaxing and quiet. We felt comfortable and well-taken care of and the property was clean, and nicely laid out! Overall, it was all we could have wanted and without the hustle and bustle of some of the other hotels.

 Summer fun.
The Royal Islander is not a large resort but it has all one could want. The staff is exceptional and the quality of food and drink outstanding. This was my 6th visit and I intend to return. I especially want to thank Fernando at the swim up bar, Jesus at check in and Anayeli Roque in housekeeping for their excellent service.

 September family vacation
It wasn't nice , you can tell it's an older place . Would need remodeling , especially in lobby area. Also , the hotel next door always has super loud music ! Starting really early ! One night someone decided to play he old ring and ditch at our door and had super loud music st heir room . The hotel didn't do anything about it .

 Escape from work
Working in hospitality management I understand things happen. More over some things can not be resolved in the blink of an eye. However not having realistic answers when a guest reports an issue is unacceptable. Some time the morning of September 17 the TV system went down. When a call was placed to the desk to report my concerns they acted as if this was a new report. The system had been down for more than 8 hours by the time I reported the issue. I heard others at the pool talking about it so it was not new. Very poor guest service. I had agreed to look at the new resort Monday. Ill take the tour but if you cant manage the property I'm at...if you think id actually consider a new property. Guess again. At least have answers and resolve issues quickly.

 Great place for relaxing
My family and I loved staying here. It was our first time staying at the Islander but we have stayed at the Royal Sands and also love it. A great place to relax. lots of chaise lounges at pool and on beach. Staff was very nice and always helpful. One day the lawn guys climbed up a palm tree and cut down a coconut for me to drink out of and it was very good. Our room was very pretty and spacious. The only thing I didn't like about the room was the toilet seat was to small for the toilet, it didn't fit all the way to the edge of the rim of the toilet bowl, I hated it. Other than that I loved the room which was a two bedroom lock off. Walking to get to the street to get on the bus was a bit of a hike which was okay for us but could be a problem for someone not being able to walk far. We really had a great time and would love to come back again some day. Thanks to all the staff for making a great vacation for us.

 Royal Islander visit
This was our first visit to a Royal Resort, and we were honestly impressed and plan on returning. We have stayed at other resorts and the Royal resort meets and exceeds all of the other resorts in all ways, but most importantly in cleanliness and service.

 Good, but not Great, Hotel.
We did enjoy our staff at the Royal Islander, however, they do need to make some improvements. The guest rooms and facilities are nice, but are definitely showing their age. The food at the Royal Islander restaurants was very good, and we liked having the shuttle option to visit other Royal Resorts. Avoid the dinner at the Royal Caribbean. Cajun buffet was very expensive and not good at all.Our #1 complaint has to be with the concierge staff. While pleasant, they are NOT their assist in your staff. They are MUCH more focussed on selling you a membership or getting you to take excursions they profit from. Never a good sign when you ask someone a question and instead of a response, they ask 'Are you members?' Its a shame too, as its the little things like this that put a damper on a vacation.

The beach front room is fantastic
The beach front room is the best to me. Me and my family enjoy the sunrise from the beach/room every morning while we stay. The staff are nice and helpful. I booked shared shuttle from Thomas More as transportation from/to airport. It is very good service and convenience. The resort is not close to the downtown of hotel zone. but it is very easy to take local bus(12 peso/person) to there even in the evening, the local bus run very frequently. My booking included breakfast which provide some mexican food other than the western food. It is very convenience that there is a small food market in the resort. Also the computer and printing center. If you like any place is peaceful with nice view, the royal islander is a good choice.

 Wonderful Stay
When we went to Cancun last week with three other couples we stayed at the Royal Islander which is in the hotel district. The resort is directly on the beach with beautiful views of the ocean (Caribbean Sea). The staff at this resort is very friendly and accommodating. They were kind enough to put all the couples in the same building on the same floor. Our room was a lockout, which basically means an efficiency or hotel style room. Our balcony was small not enough to sit outside but to stand and look at the views. The room faced the water & the pool so it made it enjoyable to see the sunrise if you were up that early. There is a small refrigerator, microwave and a coffee pot. There are a few dishes & silverware if you decide to order something to your room. Since our friends were next door who had a full kitchen we used their facilities instead. They have daily maid service who keep the rooms very clean. The entire resort is keep immaculate. They have a market that has everything you’ll need for your stay and they will deliver big orders to your room. Also, there are three restaurants on the property which are very good. You can even order food to your room from one of them.Since the weather was beautiful we hit the beach every day. They have a lifeguard, thatched huts with chaise lounges. They have waiters who will take your favorite beverage and food orders. Outside showers to wash off the saltwater after swimming. After the beach around 3pm we went up to the pool swim up bar for Happy Hour, you can’t beat half priced drinks (Margaritas, Pina Coladas and many, many others). If you’re looking for a great place to stay in Cancun I highly recommended the Royal Islander, it’s families with children as well as couples.

 clean room and nice view
We booked 3 days seperately and they upgraded our room for free. the room is very clean and directly face to the sea with a great view. the service is also very good and convenient. The only thing that I worried is the noise of the wave at night. But if you would like a seaside room, maybe it is unavoided.

 Comfortable stay
Nice resort with everything you need for a relaxing, comfortable stay. Well-equipped, clean rooms. Helpful staff. Nice pool, beach, shuttle between other Royal properties. You can arrange your expeditions right from the hotel and on Mondays and Thursdays they offer direct buses to Xcaret (vs stopping at other hotels to pick up other guests- adds on an hour plus to the journey.)

 Worst hotel stay
We visited this hotel during labor day weekend and it was one of the worst hotels I have ever stayed at. Our toilet didn't work, we had no running cold water, there was blood on the pillow case, flies coming in from the drain and hair on the sheets and in the tub. When we went to the front to get the toilet situation fixed we were told were told "I will help you get your toilet fixed and you can help me by sitting thru a 90 min presentation." He also said we would get a $75 meal voucher each for our time. We agreed to sit thru the presentation and it took 4 hours of our day!!! It was also the only sunny portion of the day. . After the presentation they didn't want to honor the agreement and we had to fight to get out full credit. That night we used some of the credit for dinner and low and behold... When we checked out we were charged almost full price for the meal. We are still fighting to get that credit back. Everytime we voixed our concerns we were faced with nasty attitudes and double talking. I feel like many of the employees in that hotel were trained to be con artists and to trick people out of their money. I will NEVER go back there again.

 Great Location and Staff
My husband and I just finished a week stay here-traded a timeshare unit for our room. Resort is very well maintained, clean and has a great beachfront location and enormous pool with swim-up bar. The staff is very attentive and helpful making our entire stay very pleasant. It appears that there were many people here who come year after year to this resort which I view as a positive sign. They appear to know the staff by name and vice verse. I highly recommend Paco's Tacos for their fish tacos and pastors-delicious we ate there multiple times. This resort is connected to another Royal resort so you have two pools, two beachfronts and multiple onsite restaurants. The food is all quite good and not terribly expensive. Best choices for us was always fish. Only real downside was the size of our room. It was the "B-side lockoff" portion with two full beds vs a king. And there was only a small round table with two chairs making it difficult to do much more than sleep and shower in the room. There was a coffee pot, mini fridge and microwave so we could eat breakfast in our room (yogurt and cereal which was fine for us) but otherwise you have to eat out every meal. The property is really nice (outside) and we accomplished our vacation goal of R&R.

Quiet but still located close to the attractions
I wanted a hotel that was located in a quiet location, especially in the beach area, and I found that the hotel was perfect. They were so many beach chairs and umbrellas that even on the busiest days Fri and Sat, the the beach was very manageable. The hotel had lots of amenities, available and a sports desk available for anything that the property can help you with during your time at the beach or pool, example volleyball, pool noodle, towels etc. The hotel is part of the Royal resorts and so you are able to take buses to other royal resorts in the hotel zone area in Cancun, you just have to make sure you are on time.

 Relaxing and Family Friendly
Our family has been going to the Royal Islander for almost 20 years. A couple of times we have exchanged our week for another place but always regret not staying at the Islander. Many of the staff have watched our children grow into young adults. They greet us with a friendly smile every year.

 Long-needed vacation!
Everything we expected! Awesome! Kids got to experience the sea turtles at night and the staff was friendly and helpful. A little hard to get to main road but there was enough to do in the resort as well. We enjoyed the pottery painting class a lot along with the ping pong tables and Tuesday Bingo!

Week 1 of 2 in Cancun
We own at the Royal Islander. Can't say enough good about Edgar, who cleaned our rooms daily. He has been cleaning our room for years. The room service was excellent too. The only negative thing I would mention, the staff needs to pay more attention to the kiddie pool. Too many children not supervised.

 Best place for seniors
Accessibility to the pool and courteous service of the staff make this a true value to the over 60 crowd. The morning pool aerobics are not to be missed, nor is the daily poolside bingo. Believe it or not, during happy hour, adult beverages are less expensive than non-alcoholic beverages. Cheers.

 Amazing Hotel
This time in Cancun was a great couple time, but if you go by yourself or with the family, you can discover a lot of things to do. The food at the restaurants are so good, the pool amazing and the see, oh god, great views, big beach with beautiful colors and clean, a beautiful clean beach where you can spend your time taking the sun, swimming or playing different kind of sport games. The suits are very comfortable, the bathroom clean and big, great terrace with a wonderful view of the hotel and the beach. Not far away from the airport and close to the La Isla Mall to waste your time shopping or with a great dinner sharing time with your company.

Enjoyed our first time in Cancun
Loved the resort. The beach was beautiful however we couldn't get in the water due to rough waves from hurricane hitting Texas. The service was exceptional. We will definitely be returning. We liked that it has the market on the premises for us to get food for our stay. We also enjoyed the scheduled activities. The thing we found lacking was the pool area was missing music. We think it would of enhanced the experience but it wouldn't stop us from returning.

 WOW! Royal Islander is AMAZING!
Excellent experience at the Royal Islander for us (2 adults, 3 small kids). The hotel staff (front desk, Thomas More desk, and housekeepers, pool towel staff, and groundskeepers) were extremely professional and friendly. Everyone employed at the hotel took time to say 'Hola' every time they saw you. The grounds are meticulous to say the least. The room was spotless! The pool was super clean and well maintained. Excellent food and reasonably priced. Ask for your personal concierge named German, a great guy who will really help you out with trips, advice on local restaurants, etc. The Royal Islander has really embodied what excellent customer service is and we could not have asked for a better experience.

We spent here a week to have some rest and travel around Yucatan. Nice and clean hotel out of the party zone, but still easy to arrange any trips, transfers are well organised. Party zone is easily accessible by local buses as well (c.a. 13 Peso)Staff is great and helpful.

Clean Rooms, beautiful beach, friendly atmosphere...
After a long day of travel, we arrived at The Royal Islander at about 2 pm. We were told we would have to wait until 4 pm (check-in time), so we went to grab lunch at Paco Taco. Very nice, authentic, casual cuisine; very friendly staff. We went back to the front desk and at 4 pm (exactly) we were told our room was ready. We had seen quite a few other families who arrived after we did given keys before 4 pm, but I won't make a big deal about the wait. Our room was very clean and very spacious. The view from the 7th floor was amazing. The cleaning staff made sure the room was immaculate each day. The grounds were so clean, as were the pools. The resort is showing a bit of age, but from what we could see the staff was always painting and primping. The breakfast buffet each day was awesome. Many usual choices (oatmeal, fruit, cereal, made-to-order pancakes, eggs, etc.). One portion of the buffet has authentic Mexican dishes that were heavenly. The staff was great. With the exception of the masses of seaweed, the beach is incredible. Wide, white sand and the most beautiful turquoise ocean. Quiet a few vendors came buy, but they weren't too aggressive.Overall, this was a great family resort at a moderate price.

It is not easy to find a wheelchair accessible hotel. I really appreciate your assistance with my father and your your help during our stay in June 2017. The room was spacious and the bathroom very accessible for his wheelchair.More

 Pretty Good
This is a nice resort. I'm currently here while writing this review. My husband and I have been here since Tuesday 8/8 & will depart tomorrow, Sunday 8/13. We came on this trip to celebrate our one year wedding anniversary! Let me say if you're looking for a party resort, this is definitely not the place. Our room was comfy, staff were very friendly, it had a nice pool and a walk out to the beach which was great. One of the cons were that the swim up bar seemed to never be open. I can remember it being 8 on a Friday night and it being closed which was kind've a bummer. We ate twice at Paco's Taco's which is one of the restaurants on the resort! Really great the first time but I got SUPER sick after eating there the second time. I can't for sure say it was because of the place that I got sick but I'm talking vomiting every hour from 11:30-2:30 a.m. Including the next day! Not fun!!!!! One HUGE tip I could give to anyone reading this review; ALWAYS drink only bottled water! No ice!!!! The water here has a bacteria that we Americans are not used to and I believe it's what made me vomit so violently. I couldn't keep anything down for almost 24 hours with the exception of fruit. The resort is on the bus line and the R1 and R2 will take you up and down the strip! They come within minutes so as soon as you get to the stop you can expect to see a bus. The fair is $1 or 12 pesos per person. Only down side is it's quite a walk to get to the bus stop. I also recommend walking through the neighboring resort, The Royal Caribbean, at night as there are more lights! We purchased daily breakfast with our stay but my husband wasn't too crazy about it. They did have an omelet and waffle/pancake station which was nice. We also enjoyed the Royal convenience store to buy things like OJ, water, and grapes and apples for when I got sick! We had a lovely stay here it just isn't the place for couples that are looking to party. It's very warm and humid so be sure to pack accordingly or if you're like me and sweat/overheat easily! We had a great stay but are excited to get home! The beds were very uncomfortable and we found ourselves waking up sore the next day! Oh and finally the biggest tip of all, there IS a difference between "oceanview" and "beachfront". When you hear ice view, you'd think your view is of the ocean! WRONG! Although our view wasn't bad, it was of the pool. They were willing to upgrade us for an extra $50 something a night. We passed on that since we had requested a room in front of the ocean at booking and notated it was our anniversary. Just be mindful of the difference. We also had a very small balcony I'm guessing because it was only 2 of us and not enough to get an entire suite. I think that's all I have to say! If you book here, have a great stay!

 Paradise at its best!
We couldn't imagine going anywhere else for our annual vacation! There is always something to do - even on the weekends. There is more than one on properly restaurant and the food is great with different themed dinners every night of the week on top of a standard menu. The views are great and the staff are amazing.

Great service, room layout and varied restaurant options
Good location and without being an AI can give you a feel of it given the options it has.Room layout is good for families and there is a well equipped kitchen that will allow you to cook if so is the option you want to take. The staff is friendly and always willing to help. There is an on site well stocked mini supermarket pricier than the one down the boulevard.Beach is fairly well kept and there are plenty of lounge chairs - the con here, you may have to do a long walk.

Great location. Service was friendly and helpful.
Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We where there only four nights and it wasn't enough. We saw turtles at night laying eggs. The resort is very protective of the ' tortugas eggs' and the staff is excellent. The grounds are well kept and the workers showed us the iguanas on the property. AC worked great!!

 RI is the best!
Our family has been staying at the Royal Resorts for the last 28 years and every year is enjoyable! The Royal Islander is our favorite and we will be very sad to lose our time share soon. The pool bar and resort restaurants are magnificent!More

Not as Good as Everyone has stated!
This hotel was not cracked up to what I thought it would be. It was quiet as from what I understand the owners are elderly and not a fan of having music. The Royal Sands is a much better property - that property provided music throughout the day, had entertainment to keep things hopping, fresh food being cooked on a daily basis, along with standard menu items, better drinks, and had fun activities for the kids on a constant basis. The Royal Islander employees (some) were lazy and unaccommodating. The pool closed early every night, even though it was super hot out and the kids wanted to swim - the Manager refused to allow them to swim. They actually had the audacity to start stacking up all of the lounge chairs on top of one another so as to not encourage people to hang around the pool at night. Isn't that what kids want to do on vacation? Swim at night to keep them occupied? Upon arrival, our room had lights that were out, dirty bathroom, and the maids refused to replace the only 3 dishes in the room when they came to clean. There was also worker performing work directly under our room and banged for about 3 hours after we checked in before I had to contact the front desk to find out what the banging was! I had to buy dish detergent in the market and take a dishcloth off of the maids cart in order to clean the dishes in the room. Ridiculous. The mattresses in the rooms were awful and every day we woke up with back pains. The water in the shower comes out like Hurricane Andrew and fills up the tub half way when you shower. You have to wait for the water to go down for the next person to shower. Other than that, we navigated our way to other properties in order to enjoy the last bit of our vacation.
