EXCELLENT

We Love Elefanta Indian Cuisine, Cancun

Inspired on the culture, architecture and mainly on the Indian gastronomy, Elefanta restaurant was created. Bringing a bit of the magic and misticism of this place, in fusion with a modern city, the Elefanta Indian Cuisine concept was originated. With the service of our chef, Basant Kumar and other indian borned members of this team, we offer an exotic culinary delight, in a very authentic and special place. The restaurant has two tandoor ovens, typical from India, that brings to your palate the unique and exquisite flavors from our kitchen.

To be honest with you, I dont know the names of Indian dishes well enough to repeat them here but everything is excellent, including the service, Dont be fooled by the 'mall' entrance, the seating is along the lagoon.

Beautiful setting along the water. Delicious food for a reasonable cost. No kids menu but they accommodated us well with plain chicken and rice that was delicious. Great service. I highly recommend #44 on the menu!!

 Fantastic once again!
My partner and I are from Scotland. We have now been to Elefanta three times on visits to Mexico and have never been disappointed. Last night we took friends and family with us. Everyone absolutely loved the food. The setting is gorgeous as well and the staff are an absolute delight. We also got to see a crocodile swimming in the lagoon! Literally every single dish was delicious. Can't recommend this place highly enough. Great for couples. So romantic. Good for groups as well. Didn't have any kids so can't comment on that.

 Great Indian cuisine
If you are craving for Indian food this is a must. Even though it's located in Cancun, Mexico but don't think twice. I had couple friends go with me who live in England and are used to eating Indian food all the time. Well they loved it. Prices are good and once again the view is good. I would definitely recommend this place to my friends and everyone I know. Service was great. It's a must for Indian cuisine lovers.

We stayed at Live aqua & were craving something different. So we decided to try this one & it was really good. The location is also unique with minor mosquito issues.

 Elefanta Restaurant #Cancun #Mexico #Indianfood
After spending a night in Houston, and a week in beautiful Puerto Morelos for a friend's weeding, but those are reviews for another time, my family had 3 nights in Cancun. My goal for our first night in Cancun, take my wife to a wonderful dining experience, did this place ever deliver. Our driver pulled up to a fairly large shopping centre, apparently named Plaza La Isla, and proceeded to inform us that Elefanta Restaurant was inside. Now, at this point, I haven't told my wife where we were going, so we proceeded into this mall. We discovered that this "mall" is a premiere shopping centre, designer stores everywhere, my told me it reminded her of the shopping centres of Dubai, so I was off to good start on our date. After being pleasantly surprised walking through, we find our destination, and we walked in. This is point I start getting kisses on the cheek. Wow. I saw the daytime photos of this place while researching, but the night time atmosphere is a whole other story. The place had hut style seating, located in the waterfront, at night, you can not see the water, but you can smell that you are waterfront. The huts were lite up with different coloured lights for each hut, with the back drop of the vegetation light up behind. The atmosphere, was quite frankly, bl**dy amazing! We proceed to order some of the fanciest Indian food I've had in my life. Lobster Curry and some type of Tandoori chicken, needless to see there was only hungry growls at the table, the food was spot on, just amazing. The chef was even pleasant enough to come meet the family, and we got to give our appreciation in person. All in all, a great experience, put this one on your "to do" list.

 Surprise in Mexico
This restaurant was recommended to us by our travel rep. I was dubious as to what the food would be like as I am a curry fan. The restaurant setting is beautiful being on the edge of the lagoon and I'm sure if the weather permits then you can watch the sunset, however it was wet and overcast when we visited. The menu is varied but there is not the choice that you would find in an English Curry house. My curry was not as hot as I would have liked (even though I asked for the hottest they could do), however the quality of the food and the taste was excellent.Staff were very attentive and service was greatWould definitely recommend

 Excellent Indian Cuisine in Cancun!
We visited Elefanta during our two week honeymoon in Cancun, to break up our all inclusive options throughout our trip. Indian food is my favourite and we were not disappointed at Elefanta. We ordered Tandoori Chicken to share to start. For mains, we had butter chicken, tikka masala, jeera rice and garlic naan. For dessert, we had the brownie with vanilla ice cream. All food was prepared to a very high standard and was very tasty.Staff were friendly and efficient and the setting is romantic and beautiful! All round, a very enjoyable experience! Highly recommended!

One of the best indian restaurant, if not the best, I had the chance to eat to. It's located on the laguna, with a peaceful and beautiful view. The service is perfect and the food is amazing. We had a wonderful dinner with friends. We were a group of 12 and they were able to accommodate us easily. The ambiance was amazing and the view of the lagoon was beautiful. Please do ask for seating with a view. The food was excellent and we were pleasantly surprised to see authentic Indian food in a tourist place in Mexico, we were certainly not expecting it. The variety of food was very good. Most definitely would recommend this place, especially if you like Indian cuisine

The restaurant is set on the lagoon along with its partner Thai restaurant. The exotic location adds to the ambiance. We ordered a few dinner items to share with our party of 4. Each dish was perfectly spiced with layers of flavor. I would definitely recommend the garlic/cheese naan bread as a compliment to the meal.

Located right inside the Isla mall this Indian restaurant has fantastic view of the lagoon and decor. Indian food was outstanding n best I have had in a long time. Quantity is just right. You have to ala carte curry, naan and rice but everything vegiterean tasted yummilicious. Do spray bug spray to avoid getting bitten if you sit by the lagoon.

 Romantic meal (with crocodile visit)
Thoroughly enjoyed dinner here twice. It is at the more expensive end but what you get is an amazing setting, excellent service and good food. It has the benefit of being able to order from an Indian or sushi menu, neither of which are entirely authentic but everything was delicious. On the second night we ate there a crocodile swam passed and the waiters all had torched in there pockets so you could have a proper look at it.

 Not Disappointed - Amazing Food!
What an amazing experience we had here! We came to Elefante a few days after trying the Thai Lounge next door where we had brilliant food. We had a private table on the edge of the Lagoon and the view of the sun setting is just amazing. We also witnessed a storm coming around the lagoon. Our waiter was lovely and catered to all our needs. For mains 3 out of 4 of us had the Chicken Tikka and asked for it to have extra spice in it and that's exactly what they were able to do. The curry was amazing and so was the lamb samosa starters. The waiter made sure our drinks were always topped up or if we wanted any more. They were very friendly and very attentive. So much so they were clearing our plates away before everyone had finished their meals. After our meal we went to the Thai lounge bar area again next door and had a few cocktails and watched the three dolphins that were behind the bar until the rain from the storm we had passed. I would like to go back to Mexico now already just to have the food here, it's well worth a visit and would definitely visit again if we return to Mexico.

We visited Elefanta twice during our stay in Cancun. It is tucked away at the back of the Plaza La Isla.  The best Indian food in Cancun!!! Hands down!!!
While on vacation in Cancun I and my wife visited this place for Indian food. Being born, brought up and lived in India for over 30 years, have fair experience of best Indian foods across cities and states. We must say this is one of the finest Indian food taste wise. Ambiance is water front and amazing too!!! Hotel staff was super friendly and when we requested for some specific food for our 1.5 year old, they made sure we get what we asked for. I have been living in New York New Jersey for quite a few years and visited 100s of Indian food restaurant including one of master chefs but the food in elefanta taste much beyond that. If you love Indian food and are in Cancun, you must go. You won't regret for sure. I am pure vegetarian hence my comment apply to veg food but I am confident that non veg would be great too.

 Delicious
Went with my wife and 2 kids (10 and 8yrs) after reserving through the Open Table app. Reservation was immidiately honored and our seats were ready. We went on a Monday eveing and after 8.30pm which means we had a good pick of tables as it wasn't busy at all.Server was polite and friendly and recommended the right amount of food. We are very familiar with Indian food and have had food from this restaurant a few times in our previous visits to Cancun. It certainly didn't dissapoint. Delicious as always. Butter chicken was cooked to perfection and flavor was just right. Didn't burn the senses and kids who are picky eaters thoroughly enjoyed it with plain/ regular naan. We tried the coconut chicken which was alright and wouldn't order that dish again. Dhum chicken biryani was fantastic and served hot and fresh. For four we didn't order much and still had leftovers. They kindly boxed up our leftovers when asked. Yum!Overall service was quick and ambience lovely (no mosquitos to deal with either!). The do suggest a tip on the bill..but it is just that..a suggestion. You may choose to pay less or more depending on how you felt your service was worth. Loved it and we look forward to going there again and spending more time at the adjacent La Isla mall.

 So Romantic - Amazing restaurant
This is one restaurant in particular that is definitely worth a visit is EleFanta - it has 2 restaurants, Thai and Indian and you have the option to literally sit out on top of the ocean, it is the most romantic restaurant I have ever visited! I would recommend getting to the restaurant to watch sunset as it is a view not to be missed. Close to your seats on the ocean is a sea water crocodile (Indian cuisine) and at the bar (Thai cuisine) is a massive glass window with a huge pool behind - with dolphins swimming past!!! Incredible. We sat in the Indian restaurant but ordered from both menus, food was delicious, we both had a Thai curry for mains, rice and cheesy nan bread - starters were beautifully presented and were also delicious!Great service and perfect location. 5 star from us!!

 Hidden Oasis of Flavor
After a few days of all-inclusive buffets at the resort, a really great vegetarian Asian meal was in order. Behind the luxury shops by Fashion Harbor, in the La Isla Shopping village, there's a little oasis of Asian cuisine. There's a Thai restaurant on one side, and Elefanta on the other, which is connected to a Japanese sushi restaurant. We were able to order from both the Elefanta menu, and the Japanese. The 4 of us were impressed by the menu, preparation and flavors. We started with Punjabi Samosas (classic), and Angara Paneer (perfectly grilled paneer with rich flavor and texture). We also tried a veg sushi roll with heart of palm in the center that was unique and amazing - it was coated with toasted almond flakes that were the perfect compliment. For entrees, the standout was the Paneer Chop. Spicy but not too, nicely presented to highlight the cheese. Everyone's favorite. The Paneer Makhani was okay, but not as flavorful as we are used to, a little bland and only presented in a white bowl. The Dal Makhani came in a metal bucket, and was the standard classic, very decent, although everyone was too full to eat it we really enjoyed it the following day. We ordered extra naan to go and took an entire meal of the leftovers home! The only downside was the outdoor aspect. Next to Lagoon it's very buggy. We couldn't see the bugs, but could feel our legs getting bitten. We almost left at first, but glad we stuck it out for the food.

Tasty food with a nice ambience
Me and my friends were in the mood for some Indian food so we found one close by to our hotel. The restaurant is located in a swanky mall with lots of posh stores and we walked around until we found the place. Like many things in Cancun, it is expensive and overpriced! The service was good with the waiters checking up on us frequently. We had a booth outdoors right by the water although I wish they had mosquito nets as the mosquitos really got me! The food was tasty. The dishes are named differently than what I have seen usually but you can figure out from the descriptions on what they are. If you want to have some Indian food close to the Hotel zone, try this place out.

 Indian in Mexico??? YES!
this restaurant is a part of a 3 restaurant complex offering Indian, Sushi and Thai in the La Isla shopping center. The food is above average, with lots of variety. be sure to try their "special" black lentil dish...very rich and almost an entre itself. Seats on the water face west and are gorgeous at sunset. Good value for the price. Staff spoke English quite well.

 Good food
This place is by a lagoon in the La Isla Mall and they open only for dinner. We did not make a reservation when we reached at 6.30 PM but were accommodated with no issues for 2 adults and 2 kids (restaurant was empty at that time) and were seated by the lagoon. We could immediately feel the mosquitoes buzz and were offered complimentary bug spray by the waiter. We ordered Potato/paneer curry and vegetable biryani. The biryani turned out to be actually Pulao, as someone suggested here they should change the name aptly. The Paneer curry was good and lowly spiced. The food is tad expensive but good and surely a welcome change from the boring resort food we were having.

Do not overlook this restaurant tucked away in the shopping mall. You'll feel like you've been transported to the backwaters of Kerala. A beautiful spit to watch the sun go down and enjoy delicious food. A great menu with plenty of vegetarian and non veg choices. The sauces are excellent. We opted for a lamb curry and a chicken tikka masala with rice and naan. Excellent service.

Indian Food in Cancun - Who would of thought it
Surprisingly good Indian food. Maybe not exactly the same as what you get at the neighborhood Indian place back home, but better than average. Nice break from what you've been eating all week, plus is in a nice setting.

Nice curry but not typical of what you would get in England.
Nice setting on the lagoon. We actually saw a crocodile swim past us! Curry was tasty but don't expect the same as back in England. Pappadoms were different with fancy dips not your normal chutney and spicy dips and the nan bread was actually what we would call a chapati however the mains were very nice although if your a chicken tikka Balti or chicken tikka masala kind of person you will be disappointed as there was only what you would call speciality currys on the menu. Bill for 2 people with a main and a nan (chapati) each and 2 drinks each came to 1100 pesos about £50 which included the service charge.

Came for Drinks, they were excellent
Came here for drinks only before we ate at Thai next door. The entire staff treated us like royalty. Very pleasant, got seated and served immediately. Specialty martinis, beers and bottles of water. All very good. We would be back.

 Trust me .. I'm British !
Now I know we're all people of the world and we all have tried all types of cuisine but when it comes to knowing a good ruby .. Ruby Murray .. Curry .. Then look no further then the Cockney Brit ! This place is located withint La Isla Shopping centre but believe me it was hard working finding it! had to ask three different people for directions! Total nightmare! Anyway finally arrived 7 pm Friday expected place to be slightly busy but only a few tables taken, Was given a seat on the lagoon ( Make sure you've applied repellent before going ) So many mosies around this area due to the water and temperature. Waiter came over and took our drinks order, took quite long getting them but finally arrived, no Indian beer but a decent enough selection there, now don't go here thinking you're going to see all the classic dishes, The starters are the only thing you'll find ' normal ' for a Indian, The missus went for a spicy soup and I had the chicken tikka, Got to say the chicken was some of the best I've had, Then we got the poppadoms offered to us thought this was slightly weird as you usually have these before the starters, anyone they come but there the ' spicy ' version in a rolled up shape, shame about the dip's and chutneys they looked nice but lacked flavour so wasn't worth it, main's I struggled with so I ordered the Lamb chops which we're very nice again, the missus had a butter chicken was was average, Nan bread's are bad.. and I mean bad, Rice was good, Had the chocolate brownie for desert which was tasty, Then came the strange part we asked for the bill which arrived after sometime and the waiter made a point of saying this doesn't include tip .. I was like okay no problem expecting him to go and return in a few minutes once we've paid but he just stood over us waiting?! very off putting and makes you feel pressured into tipping, Once we did tip he joked see you guys tomorrow .. Weird way to end a nice meal, the setting for the place is lovely certainly add's to it, if they improved there main's and bread's along with less pressure from the waiters could be a real gem of a place, Worth a try for something different in Cancun

Lovely food but beware of prices !!!
Visited this restaurant as a group of 6. Was recommended by our TUI rep in our hotel. The restaurant was original and looked fancy and posh with spectacular views. Our table was outside overlooking the lagoon with a stunning sunset view. We were not given a drinks menu therefore until the bill we were unaware that we were being charged 93mex pesos (£4.50 approx) for a small bottle of water! 1 bottle of Singha beer was £7. Starters approx £10 per person. Main course prices reasonable but prawn rice was £30! The food itself was delicious and lovely presentation. The staff were attentive as there were more staff than customers. The bill at the end included a 'suggested tip' of 15% which worked out as an extra £25 for us! We did not pay this and left a tip that we thought was deserved.

Good service, okay Indian food - complete rip off
Booked this restaurant really fancied an Indian restaurant for dinner and this was top of trip advisor and going on the website the chef has worked in restaurants across India so was really looking forward to an exceptional meal. The restaurant is located on the Laguna in la Isla shopping mall and the lights and ambiance was welcoming. One thing I noticed was that the waiters encourage you to order extra things which is unnecessary as Indian cuisine no matter what you order is filling. We ordered Somoza's to start as that is basically the only starters they do which surprised me from a supposed renowned Indian chef. They came and they were as good as you expect them to be. Then for mains I ordered a lamb meatball curry which was plain average and for almost $30USD you expect more than 3 meatballs on a plate of average curry sauce and my partner ordered chicken tikka out of the tandoor which in fairness was delicious but add in rice and a garlic naan to share as well as 1 bottle of wine the meal cost over $180USD which is a complete rip off. I could order that as takeaway back home for no more than $30USD and it would taste a whole lot better. The waiting staff are attentive and are the only reason I'm not giving this a 2* or even a 1* I was that disappointed. I would only recommend this if you were coming for a light bite to eat and you were not drinking. As it is a waste of your hard earned money

Great location & Atmosphere. Average Menub
This restaurant was recommended through our hotel. The location and atmosphere was superb. Right on the water and very romantic. The service was good. Very attentive. Unfortunately the food and the menu choices didn’t live up to our expectations. All of the curries mild and creamy and not many to choose from. It was also expensive and the tip was added on of 280 pesos which we thought was quite a substantial tip really. I think you pay for the location more than anything and it’s a bit of a tourist trap. A shame as we expected better.

Ate hear tonight. On the whole the food was really nice. However, when paying the bill we feel they were trying to pull a fast one on us. One bill came they told us how much it would be in $usd. We reminded them we’d had a couple more drinks so they did the bill again. This obviously increased the bill but on working how much in $usd we owed the bill came out less. Our other friend payed their bill and on questioning the change they were given and working out what the change should be, the waiters suddenly placed a $20 in her hand. Great food but check your bill and change given.

Service great but food a little disappointing.
We ate here last night having walked over from the Westin Lagunamar. Very quiet on a Monday night but the service was great throughout. Not as much choice as we have come to expect. from Indian restaurants in UK and the dishes seemed to be of primarily Kashmiri derivation. My wife had chicken and I opted for for fish but we both felt that the food was rather salty. Perhaps this is just our taste but we won't rush back. Just to stress again - service was impeccable and at least we could see - unlike our visit to the neighbouring Thai Lounge.

4 of us came here for a meal 1 night of our holiday but we didn't enjoy it the food quality was poor & when they came to take our Plates away we weren't even questioned why we left it all. When we got the bill it was $430 so my uncle asked to speak to the manager but he wouldn't come over to speak to us. Very expensive for poor food

 Good food, but well overpriced!!!!
Went to this restaurant after reading good reviews on here. Food was amazing but £6 for a bottle of water, seriously??? £96 for an Indian with 2 drinks each, not value for money in my eyes. Maybe if they cut back on the amount of waiters we had (3) they would be able to lower their prices!!

 Overpriced Indian
The only reason why this place is getting a 2 rating is because of the ambiance and the waiter was very nice. However, the portions are ridiculously small and very overpriced. We got the cheese nan bread, and one order only comes with 2 pieces! Seriously?! I feel like nan should come in a basket with more than 2 pieces. When you go to a Mexican restaurant, do you only get a half a basket of chips? Ridiculous. Then I ordered the tiki Marsala and it was incredibly bland. I was disappointed. It wasn't bad, but I've had much better at a lower cost. We decided to come here based on the great reviews, but were sadly disappointed. It may be because of the location- inside the high end luxury outdoor mall. Overall, I would not recommend.

 Very very bad
If I could give them a zero star,I would.Pathetic food, pathetic service is the first thing comes to my mind about my experience with elephanta restaurant. First about the food- we ordered a paneer and a chicken dish and aloo stuffed naan and onion kulcha. Both curries had same sauce just paneer and chicken thrown in them and there was no naan and kulcha like we ordered, they gave us too thin flat breads and said it was naan and kulcha. I ordered 1 masala chai there was no masala in it just a bland milk tea. Now about the service I am a vegetarian so I orderd paneer dish and the waiter served me the chicken dish my husband had ordered and told me it was paneer when I took a bite or two I realized its chicken at that point I started feeling uneasy due to the fact I never had meat in my life cause I'm a vegetarian. When we told the other waiter about their mistake he gave us a very vague sorry. Next we asked for water without ice and they served us water with ice. Last they are super expensive but not worth your penny if you are desi(indian)looking for indian food. I wouldn't recommend eating here.
