An excellent, fine restaurant a short distance from Cancun
Located in the Hotel Nizuc, along Blvd. Kukulcan, this is a spectacular place and a culinary delight. The hotel Nizuc is hidden in a woody area, a good distance from the Kukulcan Blvd., so it is very quiet. Arriving at night, the main lobby is enclosed behind huge wooden gates that open slowly to disclose this very modern and spectacular architectural creation. Very high ceilings, open spaces and beautiful views are accented by torches strategically pl;aced to illuminate the gardens. Reflecting pools sparkle and on a clear night the moon and stars add to the dramatic decoration. The restaurant is similarly a gift to the eyes. Open, spacious, with high ceilings and beautifully decorated, it is cozy and attractive. Service is friendly, polite, experienced and skilled. Chef Bladimir Garcia is a promising young star and his creations are well worth the visit. From classical Mexican dishes, he creates sophisticated fusion delights, unexpected from the descriptions in the menu. The ceviche Ramona is outstanding, even in a land where ceviche is common. The Aguachile de caracol (Seasnail cocktail) is wonderful, fresh and with the right amount of spices to make it exciting. The Crema de Chile was a smooth and delicious pepper cream soup and the Atun y Chaya was a great take on fresh, seared tune. The Venison filet was delicate, tender and juicy while the Pork ribs were surprisingly delicate and light The Chilean sea bass was perfect: done to the right point, it was neither under nor overcooked. Chef Garcia's use of condiments and spices is great: enough to give interest to the dish, without overwhelming the basic ingredients. We had a wonderful experience with a couple of bottles of Mariatinto, a Mexican blend of 5 varietals. It is truly a delightful red, with nothing to envy from many wines from California, France or Italy. Desserts were light and delicious, although additional sophistication would help.Bladimir Garcia knows his business. We will return to enjoy his creations.
