 Great Memory Maker
This is one of those "local favorites" places! The catch of the day is always amazing. They cook it right there in their little lean to restaurant! They season it with some kind of Mayan seasoning and it is awesome! I mean food to dream about when you return home! We have been there a few times now, we always try to get there on each visit. Take a taxi there, walk down a path and there you are. Not wheelchair accessible, and people should be sure footed! We watch boats going by, waving to us, the food is just awesome, fresh ceviche, great chips, limited drinks to beer and soft drinks. But a must do!

 Great Food
Every time i am in Cancun i have to stop by this place for some great fish. They always go out in the morning and catch the fish and then prepare it for you when you order. They have a great Mayan seasoning that they put on the fish and it is delicious. There were 11 people in our group and we all enjoyed the food. They even let us watch them as they prepared the fish. We had red snapper and it was awesome.

If you like seafood, you'll love this place. It's owned by the fisherman's union and the food couldn't be more fresh!

 Fine dining at its best
When we stepped into the restaurant we were standing directly in front of the desert table covered with a huge variety of deserts. I knew that I was going to have a tough time selecting one after I finished with my main course. Speaking of the main course, there were so many selections it was difficult to decide which entree to choose. So, you start with your salad trying to decide which of the 15 choices you want to pick to make up your salad. Moving to main course you can select from a variety of hot dishes to fish or crab. While you enjoy eating and talking with your friends or family the servers are right at you elbow taking care of any need you have. Everyone serving you are friendly and work very hard to make sure your visit is the best one.

We always visit this great place!
Every year my husband and I go to Cancun, we visit Restaurant Rio Nizuc. We have been visiting Cancun every year or two since 1995. The changes to Cancun are unbelievable, but this restaurant remains the unique place we have always enjoyed. It is fun to watch the boats and jet ski's go out into the ocean and come back again. This year we were taken back to where our fish was being cooked over the hot coals. Very cool. This place is not for everybody and hopefully it will stay that way!

 Secret gem!
I'm sad in some ways that the word is out on this place - hopefully, it retains it's charm. It is not for the faint-at-heart as finding it takes some effort - including a walk on planks and path into the woods along the river. You get to select a big fresh-caught fish for them to grill up in "the Mayan way" and then enjoy it with tortillas - tasty. Chilled beach vibe certainly a welcome contrast from the Coco Boingo, Hardrock, Senor Frogs,...

 Definitely a hidden gem
Sure, it's hard to find. That's part of the draw! This beautiful place serves the freshest seafood you can find. You can pick your own fish, out of the cooler it was dropped in when it was caught, this a.m. While we waited for them to prepare our half and half fish (tikin xic/garlic sauce), we started with ceviche and chips with long neck beer! A great place to sit and enjoy the beauty, with a salty breeze in your face! Service is attentive. You can stay as long as you want. Wade or swim here, also. We will return every time we are in Cancun.

 Fabulous but hard to find.
Located under the bridge at point where Nichupte Lagoon heads out toward Club Med...you will see this is where the jet skis and snorkel tours leave Lagoon. Typically Amberjack is fish of day for Yucatán Fish (Tikin Xic). We visited on 8/4/14 and enjoyed a different variety of fish which was also excellent See Photo. Guacamole is also excellent here. Very little knowledge of English. Ask for Cerveza (beer) porfavor and they will know to bring you a menu....you can then point at menu items or say pescado (fish). Staff knows Americans do not all know Spanish but they are eager to provide service although it is all on Mexican time and very slow. This, to us, is one of the best days spent in Cancun. We try to go there each trip to Cancun which sometimes is several times a year. This is one of the last stops on the bus before Wet & Wild. It can take a while to catch a bus back to your hotel but the experience is worth it. If you have the $$$ take a taxi which you probably should do the first time you go.

 Relaxing place with fresh seafood
Excellent place to relax. A week in Cancun with family and friends, seven adults total. Between me and my wife, it’s our seventh time visiting Cancun. After reading about this restaurant here on tripadvisor, we decided to to give it a try.We were the first ones to get there that day. Place is not that hard to find in my opinion, just a 22 minutes brisk walk from Westin Regina. We ordered ceviche, guacamole & chips, a couple of fresh coconuts and some cervezas to start, Ceviche was delicious we had to order another one! That kept us full while basking under the partly sunny skies while soaking in that shallow waters and watching the strings of jungle tours go by. After awhile, we decided to order lunch, we went for the “Tikin Xic” and some grilled shrimp and some more cervezas, The server took us to meet the chef and were able to pick which fish we wanted. At first, they were offering a big fish but we went with a smaller one. the fish was so tasty that we regretted not getting the bigger one. Food came out perfect and it was excellent. Our server, Yuni was attentive and helpful. Everyone in the group had a great time spending the day here. We will definitely visit this restaurant again the next time we are in Cancun.

 Amazing experience and fresh seafood
I found this restaurant based on one suggestion I had on this forum. it took some tries to find the place but it was definitely worth the trouble. Rio Nizuc is a local restaurant (we saw only local Mexicans the two times we went there) that is located right on the water (lagoon). very beautiful and romantic place to watch the sunset and see the fishermen go out in the evening for their catch. They almost exclusively serve seafood but do have some chicken dishes. And they are very cheap compared to any seafood restaurant in the hotel zone. Here is how to find it1. It is located south of club med around Kukulcan 24km2. Going south, as soon as you cross the Punta Nizuc bridge, take a left into a parking lot. The road goes around into a desolate look parking lot. park the car here. there is a very friendly guy who manages the lot.3. walk through floating wooden planks and a bridge to reach Rio NizucAlmost all seafood entrees are 100pesos (around $7.5). Strong recommend the Garlic shrimp - super yummy with their habaneros sauce.Note: the restaurant has no electricity in the dining area so they close at sunset. be there before 4:30pm. put on some insect repellent.the restaurant itself is insect free but the trek to get in there has some killer mosquitoes. also, they only take cash.

Off the beaten path, this place catches It's own fish and then grills them on a brick mesquite filled grill.
This place was only known to the locals until now. I took my wife here while we waited to check into our room. It is not easy to find, but if you ask any taxi driver, he'll know where it is. It is An outdoor restaurant, very rustic, under the Paalaa plus They have no electricity or gas so they catch their fish early in the morning and they grow them over the Mesquite Grill. they close at sundown and on Mondays to clean up. But in my opinion this is the best, ABSOLUTLY THE BEST fish and seafood on the planet bar none! PLEASE ALLOW ME TO PLACE YOUR ORDER FOR YOU. First, if there are several of you you must order a bucket of beer. I had a couple of Dos Equis and my wife had a couple of Coronas. For an appetizer, have an order of guacamole with chips and a shrimp ceviche so so so delicious!!! Be sure and order the specialty of the house, (Pronounced: tee-an-seek) It is a fresh whole fish, cut into 3 sections, the right fillet, spine, and left Fillet grilled facedown and marinated In a achiote and their blend of 11 herbs and spices, grilled facedown in the Mesquitte grill to perfection. While you're waiting for your food to arrive feel free to relax under the Palapas And watch the boats as they come out from under the bridge from the jungle cruise out into the open ocean. You can also enjoy the view or walk around and take pictures. You can even walk barefoot into the water since it is very shallow you can walk for several yards into the water. it is so beautiful and relaxing there. I go there every time I'm in Cancun, that's my first stop. I guarantee you will love this place. I recommended it highly to anyone that asks me. It's off the beaten path, not a lot of people know about it but it is known through word-of-mouth and I guarantee you will tell all your friends about it. go check it out it's under the bridge at Punta Nizuc. It's very safe, very relaxing, and very delicious! And the prices are very very reasonable. you won't pay hotels on prices that's why the locals eat there! You'll love it! You have my personal guarantee!

this is the most hidden restaurant in cancun. For twelve years going to cancun for the holidays,(we own time-share) we always makesure to have lunch at this restaurant.located in punta nizuc, just at the bend of the bridgeon the way to wet & wild. They serve only lunch, but what a lunch.Specialize in sea food and fish only. we always have the grouper split in two.one side of the fish is butter garlic, the other side in tikinchik with anchiote sauce. The real tikinchik (Not he one advertised in other restaurants, which look like veracruz fish)cooked by a mayan cook, over fire only.the most delicious fish we ever had in cancun.as for the scenery, nothing can beat it. Simple plastic tables, chairs spread oversand with umbrella.but the view is breathtaking.large expanse of turquoise water.facing mangroves, herons fishing in water, multitude of differents birds diving for fish .th entrance to the restaurant is hidden behind a rickity bridge, but soon you enter, the view leaves you breathless. This restaurant does not advertise at all.the waiter and cook speak little or no english. Most of the customers are mexicans, with few tourists who have discoved it.I never wanted to write a review of this place,I wanted to keep it for myself and family. It may never register as No 1 or 2 or 3 or whatever, but for me and my partner, it is the No 1 for fish and sea food.It is up to you to find out how to get there, and if you do, you will not regret it.Good LuckALBI

 Very Unusual But Very Good
Have been here 3 times and have NEVER been disappointed. Select your own fresh caught fish and shrimp and they prepare it perfectly every time. Get the chips and homemade salsa too. They also serve beer and soda and probably other food and drinks as well. The place is hard to find; very, very primitive. Not Ruth's Chris - no formal dress code here, quite the experience!!

Outstanding hidden fresh seafood restaurant by the river+beach.
This is an amazing jewel hidden between the big hotels at the end of the Cancun island. Its humble tables and chairs under primitive palapas (and not very attractive bathroom facilities) are greatly compensated by the awesome views next to the river and the ocean. You can literally walk out from under the palapas into the water for at least 100 feet, with water not getting higher than your ankles. Not fancy at all, so be prepared. The food is fresh fresh fresh! You pick your own fish and they prepare it on the spot. The wait under the sun is very comfortable due to the breeze, and delicious ceviche and cold beers. I have been to Cancun many times and yet only now was taken to this place. I am returning every time from now on!!

 Good food and good people
This is a hidden place that looks a bit sketchy at first, but turned out to be a pleasant surprise. The fish was amazing. I had Barracuda and shrimp. Yummy! And I can honestly say I am not a big seafood person, but this was finger licking good. It's pretty chill with nice scenery you can take a dip in the water and just relax. One of the workers Gabriel was a very nice man. He came and sat with us and made us feel like family. I love it!

 A hidden piece of paradise
It's amazing that this restaurant within the hotel zone has remained intact for so long. Breathtaking scenery with mouthwatering food. Incredibly fresh fish and seafood. I would highly recommend the ceviche, pescadillas and tikin xic fish. Tremendous value for the price you pay, as you will have a memorable experience at Rio Nizuc.

 Best Fish in Hotel Zone
We always take our friends here when they visit with us in the hotel zone. They live in Tizimin and are Mexicans and enjoy this place as much as we gringos. Fish is cooked to order. Cold beer...yes, the restrooms are disastrous but the food more than makes up for the inconvenience. Hard to find but we are so glad that we found this decades ago.

Hidden Original Tikin Xic Beach restaurant
Even though this outdoor open-air restaurant is hard to find, has wretched bathroom facilities, and offers only cheap plastic tables and chairs, I'm giving Rio Nizuc 5 stars because both times we ate there, it was pure magic. We discovered it by chance, through a shabby parking lot under a bridge, down a muddy path through the mangroves, into a little corner of paradise. The owner recommended Tikin Xic, which they claim to have created. He took us back to the barbecue area, where we watched whole butterflied fish being grilled over an open fire and had a sample of fried fish. Both were absolutely delicious. One order of Tikin Xic, for only a hundred and twenty pesos, was more than the two of us could finish. The beer was cold, the breeze was fresh, the view of the Caribbean was beautiful, and to top it off, a little band was playing for a group of their friends under a palapa, with couples dancing right on the beach. We were the only non-Mexicans there both times. Who would have expected to discover a 40-year-old authentic beach restaurant at the south end of the Cancun hotel zone?!

Best fresh Fish you can have by the water in a truly Mexican locale
This restaurant was recommended to us by our host in Cancun. It was a bit hard to find at fisrt but once we got there it was very much worth the effort. We arrived at 12:30 and the place was not busy, so we got to chose a perfect table under a quiosk just at the water's edge. We ordered the mixed ceviche (small was quite pletiful for 2) and enjoyed the blue waters and some beer while they rosted our fish over the BBQ. The result was amazing. 2.5 hours of complete relaxation in a very romantic setting, with the best food (freshly fished and cooked local fish). We would go there in a heartbeat again.

Obscure, rustic place with the freshest seafood in town
We;ve been going to Punta Nizuc for at least 20 years. It has been the same the entire time, even the tables are the same. We have mad arrangements to go snorkeling and fishing with one of the owners. He snagged us a lobster and fish and prepared cevichi right there while we were snorkeling. AIt was ready in a few minutes and outstanding. Could not have gotten any fresher. The food is fresh seafood only. It is cooked with Tik kin chic style or Mojo de Ajo (garlic sauced). You can pick the fish and they will grillit over the coals. The fish is caught by the owners. They are a fishermen's cooperative and have been together for many years. The location is on rio Nizuc and you need to get there by cab or car, You can get back by bus easy enough. You are sitting on the edge of the canal leading into the Caribbean. You need to have a bit of an adventurous attitude to go there. Don't expect a neatly comfortable bathroom.

Getting there is an adventure but worth the effort. We had ceviche as a starter which was wonderful. We shared a huge of red snapper, the catch of the day. The view is very nice. We were the only people there except staff.Beer could be colder. The waiter brought the whole fish to our table prior to preparing to get our approval. Little English is spoken and our Spanish is muy mal but we managed and the wait staff was helpful and patient. This resaurant is primative.

 Very modern, very pleasant
We had lunch recently at Ro Nizuc. It's a lovely place with beautiful water view The decoration benefitted from the generous use of dark wood. May be it was partly because of the calming effects of the setting that we enjoyed very much the skillfully prepared and nicely presented food. One can be critical of the certain aspects of our selection. But all in all it's a restaurant visiting at least once.

A hidden place in Punta Nizuc, surrounded by mangroves and no tourists on sight. There is only outdoor sitting - we had lunch with our feet in the water.Home made traditional cuisine, aiming at satisfying the locals, who invade the place on holidays and Sunday afternoons. We had guacamole, ceviche with seafood (incl. conch) and grilled shrimps with garlic sauce.  Way Overpriced
We have eaten at this restaurant a number of times over the past 20 years. It used to be a quaint out of the way place to get some local color. It is located in an isolated area where the lagoon passes into the sea - all of the boats and jet skis go right past this outdoor restaurant on their way to snorkeling. You sit outdoors under palapas and order freshly caught fish, salsa, beers, etc.The fish is very fresh and is cooked on an outdoor grill. On weekends this place is crowded with locals. On weekdays there will likely only be 1-3 tables of people at this spot. Years ago you could buy a very reasonable lunch here and spend a few hours relaxing with inexpensive beers, watching the boats go by. The fish is very good but the prices have been raised so that they are now at a par with the better lunch spots in the area. This place has a nice view and, as I mentioned, local color and uniqueness. However, it is not a restaurant - it is a picnic area. There is not a building, air conditioning or fans - there is a bathroom. This place is now charging top dollar and they have absolutely no overhead. If you have never been here, you may get a kick out of the place. I have been here and done that and don't plan to return.

I have heard about this place for years and decided to give it a try. The walk from the parking lot is a bit treacherous-cracked concrete, walking on a 2x4, and finally, over a rickety bridge we arrived at the rustic restaurant. Unfortunately, the food left a bit to be desired. Ceviche was good, but nothing special. The grilled shrimp was way over cooked and difficult to get out of the shell. Disappointing lunch!
