WONDERFUL

We Love Sea & Stones, Cancun

Sea & Stones with a casual set up under a traditional palapa (straw hut) with outstandings views of the bay of Cancun serves fine cuts, fish and seafood cooked on an Argentinian style grill, plus delicious pizzas baked on a wood oven.

 Excellent place to unwind!
I really enjoyed myself at Sea & Stones. The staff were friendly and very accommodating. The food was really good and just what I needed after a full day of snorkeling!

You have to order something from the wood burning oven. The grilled fish was excellent and pizzas and baked rolls have that wonderful hint of rustic smoke. They have this fresh salad/sides bar and you can’t beat the romantic ambience!

 Great Service, Great View
After a long day on an excursion it was nice to chill in Sea & Stones watching the water. The pre-meal bread was spectacular. Dipping it in oil/vinegar could have been my meal by itself. :-) Our server and others gave us exceptional service. We came over from Club Regina to try it out and we were glad that we did (got a 20% discount for mentioning we were from Club Regina). We ordered empanadas, pizza, a bottle of wine and dessert. All of it was very good. The empanadas were awesome. We lost count on how many our son ate. After having such a good experience I wish we had the opportunity to go back and try the steaks. Well, maybe next time we are in the Cancun area.

The biggest lobster tail I ever saw
Eat there our last night; wanted surf and turf, but special was lobster tail which was huge and for two. My wife did not feel like eating lobster and after brief discussion with waiter he agreed on splitting in half (long way). On the grill with steak it was the best! Almost too much.

 Breakfast Galore
This is the breakfast restaurant at the Westin Resort. Their buffet table is endless, and there is also an omelette bar. Their normal menu is the menu found in your room, so try the buffet and you will not be disappointed! There is so much to choose from and you will leave your table with a very full belly.

 Relaxing and delicious
Located beachfront at the Westin Spa and Resort-look for the giant thatched roof. The wait staff was extremely attentive, kind and informative. The food is prepared on a wood fire. We had a margarita pizza, four cheese and a Hawaiian. All were fresh and tasty. Our daughter had the 1/4 grilled chicken breast with a baked potato. The presentation of the chicken on a cast iron dish was very nice. I especially enjoyed the fresh fruit and salad bar. The display was beautifully done. Delicious food coupled with amazing and relaxing views of the ocean!

 Great food and service
We stayed at the hotel at the start of February 2017. Whilst the hotel was rather tired and certainly needed a revamp (which I understand is due to start shortly) this restaurant was a highlight and I hope the hotel keeps it. We thought the food was very fresh and well cooked/prepared, with great flavours. We like the restaurant so much that we went 3 times during our stay! The grills were very good and the pizza were super (as there is a wood fired oven). The manager, Valeriana, and the team that looked after us (Rene and Laurencio) were so friendly and always made sure we had everything that we needed (plenty of wine!). So I highly recommend a visit to this restaurant with it's lovely atmosphere and great view!

Fantastic location and food for a special occasion
We dropped in off of the beach later one evening during our stay at the Westin. It was our 30th anniversary celebration and they gave us one of the few tables outside of the restaurant next to the beach. With the warm breeze and the sound of the ocean in the moonlight, it was a magical experience. Our waiter was very attentive, and upon knowing it was our anniversary included the salad bar and a special chocolate cake with "Happy Anniversary" drizzled on the plate :-) The salad bar was great (my wife said the best she's ever had). My steak was amazing, my wife said that her salmon was good. We don't drink alcoholic drinks, but just preferred bottled water. A lot of waiters would be put off by that, but ours didn't make us feel uncomfortable. And like most restaurants we went to, there was not a rush to get us through our dinner and free up our table. I think we probably stayed a couple of hours, which compared to an American restaurant is unheard of. I enjoyed that change of pace. The prices weren't outrageous either. Basically a dinner to remember, I highly recommend it!

My wife and two grandchildren stopped by the restaurant and unfortunately they could only handle reservations. It was beefre the dinner rush but they would need our table before we would leave. Valevíana set up a table on the beach and said we could all night if we wanted to. It made for a fantastic last night in Cancún for all of us. The food by it self was execllent.

 PLeasent surprise.
Not a big place but right at the sand at the Westin Spa and Resort. We ate there two nights and enjoyed both. The first night we both had the salad bar and I had the ribeye steak. The only downside is the chef knowing what medium rare is for steaks. Mine was medium and still tasted great. The salad bar is the hit here, many choices and dressings. That is why we came back the second night and again both had salad bar and this time we ordered a pepperoni pizza and were not disappointed. Both nights we had ice tea which we could tell was freshly brewed. Great service and food. They had a huge lobster tail for those wanting lobster.

 Excellent Meal
We stayed at the Westin and decided to try Sea & Stones late one night. We ordered pizza, salmon and chicken. It was the best salmon I had on our entire trip. It was served on a skillet (as was the chicken) and had a delicious garlic butter sauce on the side. The chicken was also very good and the pizza was good, The atmosphere is simple, and pretty, nothing fancy. It is right on the beach (it is enclosed though). The service was very good too. It was pretty late so there were only 3 tables occupied. We really enjoyed it and would recommend.

 Lovely presentation
We were staying at the hotel and had dinner one night at this restaurant. We were so well taken care of by a very attentive, and friendly staff of waiters. The salad bar was beautifully arranged, not your typical salad bar here, and everything on it was very fresh and crisp. We ordered brick oven pizzas as well and they were tasty, creative, and well proportioned. (We should have shared.) Wine choices a bit limited for a wine drinker, but it was just such a pleasant evening, it would be hard to fault it for that. It is enclosed, although it looks like at one time it was open air, so you do get that very smokey scent in the air. My older daughter, who is not the outdoor girl, complained she smelled like a campfire after dinner, but everyone else thought is was fine.

Wonderful, romantic, cook it yourself restaurant on the beach.
Sea & Stones is on the beach at the Westin Resort. It has only a few, widely spaced tables in a Mayan-type open-side thatched building. The menu is limited to eight entrees, half seafood, half meats, with soup or salad bar options, and fruit or petit fours for dessert. The entrees are partly pre-cooked, and you cook it to your preference on very hot square ceramic plaques, set into a custom ceramic dish with the vegetable and protein portions and four different sauces. The choices are all good ones: fish filet, mixed shellfish, beef, chicken, etc., and the salad bar is very nice, with crisp, fresh greens, shredded jicama, radicchio, sprouts, and normal accompaniments, including cheese and a Caesar dressing. You also get a small cup of cold mixed shellfish with the salad option. We had the grouper filet and the mixed seafood (shrimp, octopus, and scallops), both served with eggplant, squash, mushrooms, onion, tomato, asparagus, and spinach, and both as good as food gets. Wine by the glass is available, including a very nice Mexican Cabernet (Mariatinto, Santo Thomas, BC) Service is very attentive, and the venue is romantic and peaceful. Prices are similar to other good Cancun restaurants: dinner for 2 is under $100 US. Plan to spend a leisurely time here, since it does take time to prepare and cook the food individually. The food was delicious, and this is a very unusual experience, not to be missed !

 Delicious and unique experience
My wife and I had dinner here twice during our stay at the Westin. It is a neat experience where you cook your own food on a hot stone. The food was excellent and the service was very good. Make sure you keep the paper bib on that they provide as there is some residual splatter from the cooking.

 Late night dinner
Just arrived at hotel and hadn't eaten for almost 20 hours. Front desk recommended Sea and Stones and we went. It is a real wood fire grill restaurant offering burgers pizza ribs steaks and more. Ordered the Starburger with fries, and it was so good. All their bread is homemade, the bun was gigantic and the meat was awesome. Price was almost like in the States, but much more flavorful. Highly recommend this restaurant.

A pleasant dinner on the beach
Sea & Stones is in the Westin Hotel (way at the end of the hotel zone) down right on the beach. It is a high palapa with clear curtains to keep the wind and rain at bay. They also have some tables out in the open. It's pretty informal. Just about everything is cooked in a wood-fired oven (pizza) or on the wood-fired grill (beef & fish), although they have a salad bar with some different offerings. We went for dinner and made an early reservation and when we got there it was pretty empty, but it filled up very quickly. You definitely want to make a reservation. It's probably good for lunch too.I had the grilled salmon. It was a good sized serving and cooked just right - moist and delicious. Fries came as a side. My wife had an appetizer and the salad bar. They have a nice assortment of greens to do your own and several pre-made salads. My wife loved the hearts of palm salad. The restaurant isn't the easiest to find in the hotel. It isn't well marked and the directions we got when we asked were not the easiest to follow. They definitely need more signs. Also, I think they're a little under-staffed. It was hard to get the waiter's attention when they filled up.

Kids liked the pizza ribeye was good but maybe not $40 in Mexico good. Service is alternately spot on and pretty decent. The apple strudel was great. The big deal here is wood fired everything and you're close to the ocean with a great view and breeze. Best of the westin

 Romantic On the Beach Dining
Dining under a traditional palapa (straw hut). Partially open to the beach with waves crashing just outside. Casual, but romantic. Great service and although the menu was somewhat limited to grilled items from their Argentianian grill (including pizza baked in a wood oven), it would be hard to beat the location and view.

Nice locaion on the Beach in a glass walled 'hut', very good food
Location is great right on the beach but your are protected behind glass. Surf and Turf (steak and shrimp) was very good with the sauces adding a interesting variety of tastes. We only ordered one side each expecting we would split them and have plenty, but sides turned out to be small. Next time we will each order two sides, they were good. The desserts were very good too. Also ordered a Mexican wine which was excellent, Mariatinto 'Vino Tinto Mexicono 2012'. Place was a little understaffed with the waiters really on the run to keep up.

 Good food great service
This is a fun restaurant to try with a large group. Service is good but it isn't open every night. You want a nice night as right on ocean and can be cool if too windy. You cook your own food and all cuts of meat people tried were tender. Nice variety of foods. Portions small so Ned to eat salad and dessert as well. Okay for a change and will go back.

Fun cooking your own meal on the hot stone
A fun restaurant at the Westin in Cancun. Right on the beachand quite reasonable with 20 % off for being members of theRaintree Club Regina right next door. Food is not just spectacular, but very good and it is fun to cook your own meator fish on your own little hot stone. We did not try the salad bar.I had fish and my husband had steak---both very good. The bigdraw here is the hot stone and the beach atmosphere, neither ofwhich I can get at home for any price, so we enjoyed it. Good wine selection. Would recommend----memorable.

 Enjoyable Experience!
My Husband and I stayed at the Westin Resort & Spa Cancun and Enjoyed Our Final Night Having Dinner at the Sea & Stones...It is a Romantic setting right next to the Ocean There was even a night Wedding in process as we ate Our Dinner with the Beautiful Lights of Cancun as a Backdrop. We had heard about Bibs being worn as your Cooking your Meal on the Hot Stone to avoid splatter but we didn't find that to be the Case. We ordered The Combination which Consisted of Fish, Shrimp, Chicken and Steak. The Food was Good and we found it an Enjoyable Experience and Wonderful end to Our Cancun Vacation!

 Fun! Wear the bib
This is a take on a Korean BBQ, done Mexican-style. You cook your meat on the hot stone they provide. The vegetables and salad bar were fine. We had the last seating of the evening, so the staff were willing to allow us to have as many trips to the salad bar/desert bar as we wanted, and essentially gave away food to us. The roof of this restaurant must have been 35 feet (10 metres) tall, and given the small size of the restaurant, this gave a very big impression. Overall it was a good experience for our group, and we were glad we went there. I was the only one in our group that wore the bib, and everyone else wished they had, because the meat really sizzles when hitting that hot stone.

Nice views and food, confused service
Great beachfront location, upscale food, helpful servers, completely disorganized. We visited this restaurant 4 of the 6 nights we stayed at the resort. Every time, more than one waiter would try to take our order (how hard is it to assign stations to wait staff?), our orders were filled incorrectly (sometimes multiple entrees showed up, and sometimes items were completely missing). It happened so often it became almost comical and we started saying "well, that's just how its done at the Sea and Stone!" The staff seemed genuinely interested in making us happy but there was no coordination. Still, the best restaurant option at the Westin Resort and Spa.

 Not meeting it's potential
After a week in Mexico it was shocking to see the prices they charge in this restaurant for pretty average food, limited choice and average service. Our Margaritas (charged at a whopping USD 7.50) only contained a few drops of tequilla, and even after we asked to give an extra shot, it was still merely lemonade. OK, the location is nice on the beach, but there are better choices of restaurants around.

 Just okay.
We were staying at the Westin on the all-inclusive plan. The "cook your own meal" thing was kinda fun, but didn't add a whole lot to the experience for me. The food wasn't any better than if they'd just cooked it for me, or any of the other food at the resort (which is probably the same food, really). The location is gorgeous, just like the whole Westin location in general. The flavors were just alright to me. I only used a couple of the four dipping sauces because I didn't care for the others. It also didn't seem like it was that much food. Overall, not something I'd go out of my way to do, but a decent meal.

 Great food, fair service
We really enjoyed the first part of our dinner. I got the BBQ ribs and my wife got the stone cooked grouper. The food came quickly and the wait staff were attentive at first. My wife said the grouper tasted excellent but the portions were small. The stone cooled too quickly so my wife couldn't cook her vegetables. My ribs were excellent. We didn't see the waiters again till they took our plates away. I could have used a drink refill or a wet napkin for my sticky fingers. Also to offer dessert would have been nice. The atmosphere was lovely.

Here You Cook Your Own Dinner
This restaurant has a gimmick...The Westin Resort website states "Sea & Stones" offers a truly unique experience: meals custom-cooked on hot stones". What it fails to mention is you are the one cooking your own dinner. Imagine, a restaurant with a chef who does not have to cook? Why would anyone want to pay this kind of money for dining that includes very small portions and spatters grease all over you, especially when there is a breeze flowing through the "traditional palapa (straw hut) on the beach"? We would recommend you accept your server's offer to staple a large paper bib around your neck to protect your clothing, even as unfashionable as it appears. But, it is part of the gimmick this restaurant serves up. The wooden table top surfaces were sticky from grease buildup. The stone lost heat quickly and it took some time to ensure our chicken was thoroughly cooked and reheat the side vegetables. The salad bar is an extra charge and it features only the basic of ingredients. A word of caution, if there is a breeze blowing, the lettuce is likely to be blown off your plate before you can dress your salad. We would recommend you dine early if you want to enjoy and "ocean view" as you really do not see anything once the sun sets; though, some may find the sound of crashing waves somewhat romantic. Service was amazingly un-attentive, even though there were only three tables dining when we visited. The only highlight was the bread we were served. If service were better, portions a little more generous, and the tables clean...perhaps we would not have left with such and off-taste left in our mouths. If you are going to spend this kind of money for a special dining experience, there are better places available…though it will require a cab ride to get there from this remote located resort.

 Disappointing
My wife and I went to Sea and Stones for her birthday tonight. It is located in the Westin Cancun adjacent to our timeshare. When we arrived, we were told we needed reservations, although there were only two of approximately 12 tables occupied. Just to clarify, throughout our meal, all of the tables were never occupied. Nevertheless, he seated us. We did not see a server for approximately 7–10 minutes… no water, no menu, nothing. That's pretty much the way the service went all evening. Now I realize, this is Mexico, and we are frequent travelers to Mexican resorts, but this was extraordinarily inattentive service, especially for the prices. Now to the food. I ordered what the menu said was "mahi-mahi with seafood sauce" and my wife ordered surf and turf, which was a fillet with shrimp. My mahi-mahi came out nicely grilled, but with a lump of butter on top… no "seafood sauce" to be found. When I asked about the sauce that was on the menu, our server brought out a small bowl of melted butter. My wife's steak was dry and flavorless. She remarked that it seem like a piece of dry roast. I agreed. The shrimp were fine. Let me be clear, the server and his assistant were kind and polite, as we find nearly all of the Mexican people we encounter are. However, the food was some of the worst we've had in our 10 days here, and some of the most expensive. On a positive note, I mentioned to my server as we were seated that it was my wife's birthday. At the conclusion of our meal, he brought out a lovely chocolate cake with "Happy Birthday" written on the plate in chocolate. I would steer clear.

 Just skip it.
Let me preface this with saying we are NOT picky eaters. We typically are pleased with whatever/wherever we go. The idea of this place sounded fun - eat by the ocean, hot stone cooking, romantic setting. We were very unhappy with this meal. first, the weather was terribly cold (not their fault) but it would have been nice if they had either offered to have us eat there another evening or had an indoor area to eat (which many resorts have for their outdoor restaurants). The prices were extremely high, especially for the amount of food you receive. We ordered pork and a seafood plate and we were both shocked at the meager portions and were unaware we'd be cooking our own food. the food was good but nothing special - the pork was marinated in uninsteresting spices and the seafood was just so so. The cold wind contributed to our stone cooling before we could cook everything thoroughly. The meat was swimming in grease, and the smell of old grease in the air made me quite sick to my stomach by the end of the meal.

Who knew cooking a steak was so difficult?
Oh I'm sorry to say this place was just awful. Nice view, nice people, but they really don't know what they are doing on the grill. The quality of meat was....fine, considering but we got one piece burned to a crisp and the other somehow both overcooked and raw. We also smelled of smoke (or gas I believe) for the rest of the trip. Pass. And was our food supposed to be served on a hot plate or something? That didn't happen

 Really disappointed
Was staying here all inclusive and when I saw location on beach with glass walls had high hopes. Also could smell the coals and see the pizza oven so looked very promising. First time I had rib eye but was very grizzly even for rib eye which I know does have more fat than most cuts but this was just chewy grizzle not marbling or fat plus served on cold slates which cooled food so quick. Anyway we gave it another chance due to staying here and ordered steak again and a pizza and this was even worse than first time and the pizza I was so shocked. It honestly tasted like a frozen cheap pizza. We didn't make big deal as we was all inc so we just went to other restaurant but the service needs work to. Looked like no one was really in charge or supervising. I think they need to reduce amount of restaurants and menu selection and have less choice with higher quality. No point having tonnes of choice if quality is but cheap. As there is 100,s if not 1000,s of places to eat with a cost of $1 used to get to them they really need to realise why it's almost a ghost town at night. Avoid and go elasewhere

 Well this was disappointing
I had eaten here once years ago and loved the locale, right on the beach, and remembered being served a hot stone with sizzling fish table side, so I decided to go back. For some reason, they weren't serving on hot stones that night and the visible brick oven had pails and such stored underneath as though it was being repaired. The table had a casual paper covering it, no water, not even salt and pepper. I ordered a chicken fajita and, honestly, it was the worst chicken fajita I ever had, which is saying a lot being I was in Mexico! It didn't seem to have any peppers in it, just chicken and a few strings of onions - that's it! I asked for guacamole and was told they didn't have any, I asked for salsa and the waiter snagged it off the salad bar. The best part of the meal was the salad bar. The bread seemed microwaved, spongy and low quality white rolls. A very un impressive dinner menu. We had a gift certificate and ended up leaving a large part of it to the waiter because we weren't interested in eating anymore of the food. We will never go back.
