 Incredible food and service
Great food and service! We came for the show on Thursday night and the dancers were great. Lots of colors and costumes and they even posed for photos after. We already booked another reservation for tomorrow night before we go back to the US on Saturday!

 A slice of heaven!
This is a quiet small place off the main road on the lagoon with excellent Mexican/Mayan dishes at very affordable prices. A show on Monday & Thursday adds to uniqueness! Don't miss having dinner here!

Another wonderful evening enjoying Mayan cuisine at Xkat-ik
We returned to Xkat-ik restaurant for the first time this year, and were very pleased. It is hidden in back of a farmacia and a money exchange, and Derma skin care on the right, just south of the Captain’s Cove (km 16.5). As of this writing, there was no signage, save a chalkboard sign sometimes put out. We got an extra treat beyond the meals by enjoying the Thursday night dance show. Because this restaurant is now extremely popular, getting a reservation is a must. When we first ate there a few years ago, we ate a superb meal: but on a tablecloth over a card table and folding chairs. They now have restaurant-grade tables and chairs, but some of the seating area is still on the lawn. Do not be put off, the sunset view is well worth it. The full house is there because the menu is different and very well prepared. The staff is very attentive, and we have always enjoyed great service. We started with tamarind margaritas, and then shrimp cocktail. There were more shrimp than we would have expected in the thin red cocktail sauce, with onions, and shredded lettuce garnish under a fresh avocado with saltine crackers. Our entrees were cochinita pibil pork, coconut shrimp, fresh coriander fish filet with cream sauce, and fish filet pibil style (fish in banana leaf with vegetables). All were excellent, as our daughter-in-law is a great cook, and she gave a whole-hearted thumbs-up.The dance show featured five women and four men performing Mexican regional traditional dances, and then after a brief intermission, South American dances, carnival style. The show was about 50 minutes, and brought a lot of applause from the audience at Xkat-ik. It was very well done, and certainly more than we expected.

 Third year eating here.
My wife and I brought our three adult children and their spouses here. It is a great litttle outdoor restaurant that serves traditional Mayan food.all their pork dishes are great as is their lime soup. Alberto will assure that you have a great time. They have a Mayan show on Monday and a areas of Mexico show on another night. Ask Alberto.

 Friendly Little Oasis
Tucked away, across from Museo Maya, it's on the lagoon, just south of The Captain's Cove, keep your eye out as you walk on Av. Kulkulkan. Definitely worth seeking out. We enjoyed an excellent lunch after touring the Miguelito archeological site at Museo Maya last week and enjoyed it so much we went back for more. The staff are very friendly and offered up happy hour beers etc. for lunch. We recommend the stuffed avocado, grilled shrimp and Mayan salad of jicama, carrots and beets.

 A HIDDEN GEM
This is the best Mayan food in Cancun. This place is good for a romantic dinner or a group of friends. Reservations is a must if you want to see the Mayan dancers perform which they do every Monday and Thursday. I would suggest you get there at 6:30PM in order for Alberto to tell you the history of the dance you will see at 7. Their performance is outstanding and they go non stop for 30 minutes. I highly recommend the Mango Margarita. It was made with fresh mangos, a definite treat. We had two appetizers, but I preferred the Avocado with shrimp the best. The fish filet was delicious as well. After the coconut shrimp was finished they offered to cut the coconut itself and sliced it for us to all have a treat. It was refreshing with the lime and coated sugar. Unfortunately for us the weather did not co-operate and we were unable to get a photo of the sunset. Sitting at the tables on the grass gives you an excellent view of the dancers. Service was excellent and the food outstanding. We gave the dancers a gratuity. I will definitely return to this GEM of a restaurant.

 Not to be missed
We discovered Xkat-ik this year and ate here 4 nights in a row during our Cancun stay. The food is so fresh and light but incredibly satisfying. My favorites were the panuchos ka-ha (the ones with chicken - didn't try the veggie ones but they looked amazing too!) and xkat-ik pepper (banana pepper stuffed with veggies and gooey cheese. covered in the most amazing tomato sauce and on a bed of delicious mashed potatoes). I got the same thing every night because I could. not. get. enough. My partner got the flank steak (amazing) and the Yuca stuffed chicken breast (simply seasoned chicken stuffed with veggies and creamy cheese with a side of local vegetables). We tried all of the desserts, too - the flan was authentic as all-get-out and to DIE for. The rice pudding was not the American stuff I grew up on but crazy good. The chocolate cake was perfect - light and fluffy but just dense enough and packed with flavor. Not only is the food outstanding, but the service is insanely friendly and the owner, Albert, is delightful and enthusiastic. He gave us so many suggestions of activities to do during our stay. The drinks are amazing - one of the best mojitos I've had, and the tamarind margarita is delightful. The prices are as good as it gets.We have both been dreaming about the food and the view and can't wait to come back next year. Thank you so much for an incredible experience!!!

A great dining experience in Cancun
Nestled along the shore of the lagoon, the almost hidden restaurant overlooking a marina offers a delightful and tasty dining treat. The sumptuous shrimp cocktail appetizer served with avocado was a tempting invitation to the entree of grouper served with rice, small fried shrimp, and vegetables. The unique flower-based red sauce was the perfect compliment to the grouper and provided a sensational taste never experienced anywhere else. A gracious host explained the menu, the specialty of the day (every day has a different specialty) and the the service was efficient and timely. We look forward to a return visit and recommend it to family, friends and all who visit Cancun.

 Hidden, authentic gem
An unassuming little restaurant with no sign on the street. This was our last night in Cancun, unfortunately. The restaurant has no walls, with most tables under cover but the possibility of eating outside; all tables have a view of the water. We were welcomed by the owner, and our waiter gave us an enthusiastic explanation of each authentic Mayan dish. I had grouper baked in a banana leaf--delicious--, and my husband had coconut shrimp arranged in a coconut shell. The by-the-glass Mexican wine was surprisingly drinkable, and the coconut ice cream with ground coconut and Kailua was a perfect finale. How nice to sample authentic cuisine!

Authentic Mayan Mexican food in the Hotel Zone
If you're looking for a special experience you can get a wonderful meal at Xkat-lt Resturant. Many people flock to Captain Cotes for sunset dinners without realizing what's right next door is where you can enjoy one of Cancun's finest meals. Hidden and hard to find until you walk to the back. There are no signs. Be in the moment!

 Grouper is super
Started with the avocado stuffed with shrimp, very nice. My buddy had the flank steak with shrimp which was very tasty although a bit salty. Supposed to be that way. I had a grouper filet with a red seasoning, tomato and pablama pepper etc and it was verrrry good. Very flavorful, moist and not spicy hot, just lots of great flavor. You might want to make reservation for after 6 pm. The place gets busy. We just happened to walk up a little earlier. Worth coming to for sure. Excellenti!!

What a great find for delicious Mayan Fare
We got a tip to try this place. It is located to right of Captains Cove and across the street from the Royal Caribbean. This place is hard to see there are no signs. It is left of the pharmacy. We were blown away at this waterfront dining location. The food was terrific and the service was impeccable. The menu is short and full of delicious choices. My favorite was the stuffed banana pepper full of spicy chicken on a bed of mashed potato's. The fish was also outstanding. Here is the best part the prices a very reasonable. Xkat-Ik is one of our very favorite restaurants in Cancun. We go at least twice each time we visit and prefer to go in the evening so we can watch the sunset over the lagoon. The food is authentic Mayan. We have tried many dishes and never had a bad experience. Notes:1. You will need a reservation on the nights that the Mayan show is offered. 2. We put on mosquito repellent and wear long pants and sleeves since the mosquitos do come out as the sun goes down. Most tables are on the grass, but there are a few on cement under a roof. 3. What a great place. People are so friendly, can't do enough for you and genuinely want you to enjoy your experience. Ordered steak fajitas and were delish, couldn't finish them though, all very reasonably priced and top quality. The owners are always stopping by and making sure you're happy. If you get chance, try the flambe coffee, very good theatre and husband said it was great. The place is just over the street from the royal Caribbean and down the side of the oxox store by the tour desk. A real hidden gem

Went here for dinner this evening after hearing many good things about the restaurant. It’s located in a spot where you really wouldn’t know about it unless you knew it was there. Very nice view of the lagoon. The very personable owner came right over to our table to welcome us, explain the menu and answer any questions we had. He and his staff were very welcoming and attentive. Even if the good wasn’t so good he would give you every reason to come back here. The food was great! I had Uxmal Avocado as a starter and the coconut shrimp for my main course. I enjoyed them both. When we were done eating they brought over complimentary rice pudding. I’m not a big rice pudding fan but this was served warm with a hint of cinnamon and was so good. I highly recommend this restaurant and will definitely return.

Absolutely the BEST food hands down! I will never go to any other restaurant now! Everything is incredible!  Hidden Oasis!
My family ate here after getting a recommendation from a worker at our hotel. It is not easy to find, tucked away behind the OXXO store, next to Captain's Cove restaurant, and across from the Museo de Mayan. It is small, and we had the place to ourselves at sunset. What a lovely view over the lagoon as we sipped our margaritas! The wait staff was very attentive, and for my youngest son, who is not the most adventurous eater, they tailored their menu just for him and made him something special that he would eat! The prices were fair, and the food was outstanding. We would definitely eat here again!

 Great food and excellent food.
Wonderful flavors and service. Small restaurant next to the water. Outside seating only, but it was covered and there were ceiling fans. We would come again.

 The BEST!!
Absolutely the BEST food hands down! I will never go to any other restaurant now! Everything is incredible! The mango margaritas are the best with fresh mango, the lime soup is amazing, the coconut shrimp and grouper are out of this world and the coconut gelato is something I dream of now haha! Thank you Xkat-Ik!!

Hard to find but worth it
Not the easiest place to find because it's set back behind another building but it was worth it. We were welcomed by Alvaro Gonzalez, their host. A delightful gentleman. The food was excellent and not expensive. I recommend the shrimp stuffed avacodo appetizer. Its both halves with lots of shrimp. Shared it with my husband and we split the shrimp with tequila sauce. Friends enjoyed soup.It is on the lagoon and you're seats outside. Very nice. Will go again when we are in Cancun next year.

 Great dining option in Cancun
Xkat-Ik was a delightful dining experience. The restaurant is open air with a view of the lagoon and marina and would have beautiful sunset views but we arrived after dark. The food was well prepared and flavorful- Mayan style fish, sopa de lima, flank steak and stuffed chicken were all excellent. Service was also very attentive and the owner will happily answer questions about the menu if you're unfamiliar with Mayan food.

 A hidden gem
Xkat-Ik is truly a hidden gem. Tucked behind Captain's Cove, this outdoor restaurant deserves more recognition. The food was amazing and the price is unbeatable, especially compared to the other places in the Zona Hotelera. Every single dish we ordered was amazingly flavored, so much so that we actually came back to eat two nights in a row. Their yucca stuffed chicken breast was especially good - that sauce was hands-down one of the best I've ever tasted. The waiters were all really friendly and very attentive to your needs. Overall a very hearty 10/10 and I'd recommend this place to anyone who wants a truly authentic Mexican or Mayan meal without having to break the bank.

 Great Mayan restaurant
We ate dinner here twice during our 1 week stay at the Royal Caribbean and it was excellent both times. It is authentic Mayan with great seafood and chicken dishes. Outdoor terrace overlooking the lagoon with beautiful sunsets. It is right next door to the left of Captains Cove and across the street from the Mayan museum.

Hard to find but so good!
Eat here, it's wonderful! We heard about this from another hotel guest who could not remember the name, but raved about the food. Look for it around the left, behind the Captain's Cove. Everything was so tasty. The servers are attentive and helped me choose in consideration of my allergies. We were impressed that such wonderful food came out of such a tiny kitchen. I had the coconut shrimp and hubby had the beef fajitas. The salsa was amazing too! A Host came around to check on us. I wish I could remember his name. He was friendly and gave us activity suggestions which we would never have known about.

Behind the beaten path, a few doors from Capitan's Cove, the food was very reasonable and perfectly prepared. We took the owner's and waiter's suggestions and had the best seafood ever - seabass and shrimp melted in our mouths. We're from New Orleans, not strangers to fish! And...we went despite our all inclusive resort! You must go. J.C. and Sarah owners. Go!Marc and Sherene

We stumbled across this quaint little restaurant by chance. Wow! Great food! Great Margaritas! Plus the owners come and check on you. Getting to see the sunset was a bonus. We started out with Ponucho Ka Ex (pork tortillas with a little bit of everything on it) and Uxmal Avacado (shrimp stuffed avacado). For the main course she had the special, Grouper with mushroom salsa. I got the Conchinita Pibil (oven roasted pork). Everything was heavenly! A couple Tamarind Margaritas to top it off. This is the best meal we've had in Cancún. Too bad we found it on our last night.

Great little restaurant on the bay.
This place was a real nice surprise. When we told the waiter we were from NY he played Frank Sinatra style music for us. it was very funny. The food was delicious and fresh. the portions were not large, but the freshness made up for it. All the staff were amazing and you can watch the food being made in the outdoor kitchen. I recommend this place if you want fresh food in an intimate setting on the bay. Highly recommend the guacamole appetizer and any fish dish.

 Nice restaurant in hotel zone
The spot is perfect if you have kids that need to move around. They can take their toys to a lawn area and keep busy while you order and wait for your food. The food is good , affordable and authentic. We had a large party and our waiter had a little trouble with timing...so we were served at different times. No problem, we just shared as food arrived and enjoyed. The most important thing to us is happy kids and ours loved it.

Great show, inviting atmosphere, gorgeous sunsets
This is our 4th time back to Xkat-ik and we hope to return next visit. The owner is lovely and on Monday and Thursday they include a terrific show and 7-or 7:30..two different shows. The setting is lovely with a view of the lagoon. The fresh fish is excellent as is the shrimp cocktail. The owner was pleasant when I returned the tamarand fish special, the sauce was incredibly sweet and thats the reason I didn't give it a 5.Every year they improve the environment and its definitely on my list of return to-- restaurants.

 So good, we went twice
We'd seen the reviews on TA and were staying just down the road so decided to check it out. Very glad we did. We were greeted warmly by Alvaro, the host. He made some great recommendations and the food and drinks were delicious. The price was very reasonable and the service was very attentive without being pushy or intrusive. Our first visit was on a Monday and there was a Mayan dance review that was a nice surprise. We enjoyed the entire experience so much that we went back the following week and had another great meal. Highly recommend if you want to enjoy something other than a taste of local food, culture and hospitality!

 Good but not great
Four of us visited escape tech last night. We started with two bowls of soup one lime and one corn chowder. The lime soup was outstanding as was the corn chowder. Three of us had the fish Pibil. It was wrapped in tinfoil with lots of peppers onions and tomatoes. The fish acquired the taste of the vegetables and had a little taste of its own. One of our group had the special of the night which was grouper and shrimp in a parsley sauce that was very good. The service was quick and attentive. The margaritas were excellent and were large. The price for one bowl of soup to fish dinners two margaritas came to $40 US.

 Pleasant surprise
On our last night in Cancun six of us were looking for a restaurant to celebrate our last night. WE had heard some good things about this place so we had our concierge make a reservation.. When we went in we expected it to be a usual beach restaurant but were pleasantly surprised. The menu is mostly fish but that is what ikt purports to be, a Mexcican/Mayan restaurant specializing in fish. The food was not what we have seen in many similar restaurants but it was delicious. The Maitre'd was very knowledgeable about the menu and explained each dish to us. He made some recommendations, some of which we tried and everyone was very happy with their meal. The staff were pleasant and helpful but there was a language barrier as some were not proficient in English. Our only regret was it was our last night. We definitely all want to go back and try some of the other entries

Like eating in your friends backyard!
Right across the street from the Emporio and the Omni resorts. Great flavor and very friendly staff. The view is great as it sits right on the harbor. The stuffed avocado and the vegetarian tostada type of entrées are great. The Pico has some kick so start slow. The fajitas and the coconut shrimp are full of flavor and fun. Check it out when you are in town. You can catch one of the dozens of city busses from anywhere in Cancun for 10.5 pesos (about 50 cents US) each way.

The place is small but that's part of the charming of this place. It's located on the lagoon side in Cancun's hotel zone so, sunsets are amazing here. Nothing fancy but food is great. If you want to try some real, original traditional food from Yucatán, this is the place to go.

Authentic Mayan food in an open setting
An interesting restaurant and I think better for lunch than for dinner. On Monday nights they have a complimentary Mayan show that starts at 7pm. A bit hard to find....walk south from the front of Captain's Cove and enter the restaurant sidewalk just to the right of the money exchange. It is on the lagoon and NOT on the highway. Mayan specialties and an open air kitchen make this a nice lunch spot.

Been here 4 times, experience varies. Good free Mayan show on Monday
We have been here several times, based on the proximity of this little hidden restaurant and our hotel. It is behind the larger Captain's Cove and is accessed south of Captain's Cove. On Monday night there is a free Mayan show which is up close and personal as the restaurant seats about 50, all outdoors. It fronts the lagoon which is nice. The kitchen is open and many things here are handmade, the drinks are good. I have found the flavors to be mild, which does speak to mayan cooking. If you don't like mild, their habanero salsa will set you free. Service is spotty. Prices are good for the tourist zone and a bit on the low side. Ask for a spot under the roof if weather is likely.

 Disappointing
Went to this place on the recommendation of people at the resort pool. Very disappointing. Food was very average if that. Show was mediocre. Definitely won't go there again. It's too bad because I travel often to Cancun and love to find new places to take my friends. XKat-IK won't be seeing me again. Also, bill was very sketchy. How could it possibly an even $100 U.S? That was a red flag.

Returning to this restaurant, but it was disappointing
Returning to this Mayan restaurant, but this time it was disappointing. Maybe the restaurant is under new management or some other significant change. The food was average-poor, but their prices are still on the high end. I had their salmon special with tamarind sauce. That was a mistake. The fish was dry and tough. How can salmon be dry and tough?Careful when paying with foreign currency or charging to credit cards. The exchange rate now anywhere in Mexico is 20.60 pesos per 1 USD, but the restaurant uses 16 pesos per 1 USD. So be prepared to pay in pesos.
